Saint Thomas Church Somercotes.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mother Imogen Black and the Parochial Church Council for their invaluable support during our formative period as a new charity. The assistance provided by the Church in the initial months, particularly through the provision of a meeting space, was instrumental in facilitating our growth and development. Without this foundational support, our progress would not have been possible.

Saint Thomas

St. Thomas the Apostle, also known as Thomas the Doubter, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. He is known for his initial doubts about the resurrection of Jesus and for his later devotion to spreading the Gospel. He is remembered as an important figure in early Christianity and one of the greatest saints in the Catholic Church.

According to the New Testament, Thomas was born in Galilee and was a fisherman before becoming one of Jesus’ disciples. He is often referred to as “Didymus” which means “Twin” in Greek, but there is no information about who his twin brother was. He was present at many of the key moments in Jesus’ life, including the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.

After the resurrection of Jesus, Thomas was one of the apostles who doubted the news of the resurrection. Jesus appeared to the apostles, and upon seeing Jesus, Thomas declared “My Lord and my God!” showing his faith in Jesus as the Messiah and son of God
